The most highly anticipated Ridley-Scott-comeback sci-fi summer blockbuster movie of the 21st century, Prometheus feels like The X-Files meets Alien meets The Tree of Life meets Ebola meets The Abyss.

In the distant future, in the Isle of Skye in Scotland, after unearthing another cave painting illustrating the same star map discovered in other ancient civilizations, archaeologists sweethearts Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and  Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) feel that they are now only a step closer to the answers to their existential questions. Who created mankind? Are we engineered by a more superior life form? Why was mankind created? So, then the couple hops on the spaceship Prometheus, along with a crew that includes a very soulful robot David (Michael Fassbender) and a robot-like woman (Charlize Theron) on a Weyland-funded mission to find answers in space. But, of course, they will encounter monsters first. And...(READ FULL REVIEW)

Both fans and non-fans of the Madagascar franchise will be absolutely taken by surprise by the third installment: Europe's Most Wanted, this time helmed by three directors, Eric Darnell,Tom McGrath, and Conrad Vernon,  and leveled-up in 3D.

Left stranded by their conniving penguin friends in the wilderness of Africa, the gang of Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), are suffering from increasing bouts of homesickness for their Central Park Zoo. Determined to go back home to New York, they decide to flee Africa and catch up first with the penguins in Monte Carlo-- where they unfortunately caught the attention of a psychotic and highly skilled French animal control officer, the hilariously obsessive Captain Chantel DuBois (a riotous cross between Edith Piaf and Cruella De Vil), voiced by Frances McDormand, who would stop at nothing to catch the animal friends. The gang, the penguins, along with King Julian XIII (Sacha Baron Cohen; Borat) and the lemurs, join a traveling circus initially to hide from DuBois, but then it eventually becomes a scheme to get to New York. And thus begins the gang's European invasion, traveling from one country to another, yearning for the Big Apple. But as they are getting to know more about their new-found circus friends (voiced by Jessica Chastain, Martin Short, and...(READ FULL REVIEW)

Beauty. Vanity. Power. Jealousy.

The dark elements of the story of Snow White, cloaked in fairy tale magic and fantasy, are perfect ingredients for a delicious epic story, with a high potential to be a cinematic dream.

Snow White and the Huntsman offers the sinister and action-adventure side of our beloved childhood fairy tale to rouse horror and suspense reminiscent of 1997's TV movie Snow White: A Tale of Terror  (Sigourney Weaver), while keeping intact its sense of fairy tale magic. Medieval castles, enchanted forests and creatures, evil queens, beautiful princesses and handsome princes, it promises a fairy tale movie come true.

What to Expect When You're Expecting feels like a brief overview of various birth methods and pregnancy tales (because it's based on some pregnancy book) that culminates, of course, to seeing the babies in their arms.

In the first place, I don't know why they needed to make a film out of this stuff; which feels nothing but a very light, cliched summary of what to expect when you're expecting, only it's pretty, colorful and, uhm, cinematic. We see beautiful women, Hollywood female A-listers and popular faces (Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kenrick, etc) walking around with bulging bellies and/or watching them in their own little dramas and little joys of being expectant mothers. To give us a break from too much estrogen on the screen, they incorporated a Daddy Club, led by Chris Rock...(READ FULL REVIEW)

In 1999, the world got a taste of American Pie. Jason Biggs will forever be stamped in our minds not only as the younger version of Adam Sandler but as the horny boy who had sex with an apple pie and became an Internet sensation.

American Pie creator Adam Herz contributed to pop culture and cinema a brand of mainstream teen comedy that crushed the barriers of censorship, modesty, and subtlety-- he nosedived into a shameless sex comedy in all its teenage awkwardness. He laid it out point-blank to your face: American Pie is a sexy, hormonally charged gross fun, meant to turn your eyes away awkwardly, make your jaw drop and make you feel uncomfortable, while keeping a steady stream of humor, inducing the...(READ FULL REVIEW)

Michael Fassbender’s eyes are intense. Give him a non-speaking role and he could still affect you in many ways. You can see through his eyes layers upon layers of emotions.  Hell, you can even see through his soul. In 2011’s Shame, artist-turned-director Steve McQueen cast Fassbender in a role of a sex addict named Brandon, which won Fassbender numerous acting awards including the BAFTA.

Brandon keeps a shameful secret. He is a sex addict. Living alone in his sterile, immaculately clean New York apartment, his secret addiction to joyless sex with strangers is suddenly disrupted by his sister Sissy (Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan) who shows up unannounced to come live him. His privacy ruined, Brandon's frustration to get his next fix slowly eats him up until his sex addiction...(READ FULL REVIEW)

Sappy romance set in suburban North Carolina, with breathtaking pink skies, sunsets glinting against blades of grass, roses and carnations in full bloom and rustling in the wind, a charming, rustic house complete with a story-book porch...Then a ruggedly handsome soldier, quiet and strong, suddenly comes into the life of a beautiful blonde single mom. Isn't it romantic? Isn't it sooo...Nicholas Sparks?

Based on  Sparks' novel, The Lucky One tells the story of a marine, Logan (Zac Efron), and his superstitious belief that a photo of a woman he found while on duty in Iraq is what kept him alive during the war. After finishing his third tour, he sets out to find the woman in the photo to thank her. I mean, she saved his life and all. He finally finds her in North Carolina. Her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling), a divorcee who lives with her genius son and her very young and perky grandmother (Blythe Danner). They happily run a kennel and are occasionally harassed by the town sheriff, Beth's bully ex-husband Keith (Jay Ferguson). The  next thing Logan knows, he's a hired help in the kennel. And the story of the photo does not come up...(READ FULL REVIEW)

The plot that film snobs (and those who have never given Titanic a chance) scoff at: Poor boy meets rich girl. On-board a luxurious and gigantic ship on its maiden voyage destined to sink. Celine Dion singing the theme song. Pretty sunsets. Heartthrob of the '90s Leonardo DiCaprio yelling, "I'm the king of the world! Wohooo!" A love story so cliche it hurts.

But why did 95 percent of the world fall in love with Titanic when it premiered in 1997? And people never asking "Have you seenTitanic?" but "How many times have you seen Titanic?"  And why is it that, today, it is still one of our most favorite movies of all time?... (READ FULL REVIEW)
